Discovering Otranto

Catona House suggests you what to see in Otranto during your stay near Lecce, in Salento. Otranto is the “old village” as Unesco calls it; it sees the first Italian dawn and has a rich natural, artistic and enogastronomic heritage due to its position between the East and the Mediterranean. The historical centre of Otranto is a succession of places that made the medieval, the Byzantine and Greek history: the Aragonese Castle and its walls, the Santi Martiri cathedral, the mad Tower, the Alfonsina door and the long heroes’ promenade. On the outskirts of the village you can find the following: the rural Torre Pinta and its hypogeus, the Cava and the Bauxite lake, the lighthouse and the natural paths of Punta Palascia. On the side of the Adriatic see, don’t miss the Torre del Serpe and the seaside spots such as Laghi Alimini and Porto Badisco. You can then visit the different caves (“grotte”) such as Grotta dell’eremita, le Grotte delle Orte, la Grotta della Monaca. You’ll be able to choose between the fine sand beaches and their crystal sea or the rocks. From the touristic harbour you’ll be able to experience diving, fishing or sailing boat excursions.

The apartments with a view on the seaside are idel to spend a relaxing evening on the terrace.
